Deer freely roam our property at Idlewild, and we gather their sheds. We also use the sheds given to us by friends and family from all over Virginia. There's one doe living on our property that I've grown rather fond of; I named her Peggy-O. She has raised at least one fawn that I know of and I spotted both of them helping themselves to our peach tree last summer.
The antler is such a lovely, organic material to work with; it is raw and wild. It creates such a feeling of connectedness - a piece of the animal’s history, signifying a phase in the life cycle of a wild animal - and ending up on my workshop table. I like to think a couple of Peggy-O's suitors have left a shed or 2 behind..
